June 2014

29th June 2014

WP_20140615_009Since my last post we have been busy as bees. Our very first Country Gardener’s Day took place on June 15th and it was a great success. The day was a showcase for the many local buisnesses that are members of the Herefordshire Horticultural Hub. There were plants supports from Plant Supports UK, herbs from The Cottage Herbery, fantastic plants from The Gobbett, Ivy Croft, Aulden Farm and Mynd Hardy Plants. Frant P Matthews offered a wonderful selection of trees and Plantwild wowed us with their wild flowers. Our stables were transformed with a collection of cut flowers from Stokesay Court Flower Garden and the garden schools was home to herbal workshops. All this and so much more.

The highlight of the day for me was seeing a group of visitors enjoying a talk from Foraging expert Liz Knight under the monkey puzzel tree. Everyone looked so relaxed. It really was a charming day.

Our first Jazz night went down with a swing and tickets are on sale for the next musical evening on July 26th.

The gardens have really put on a show and we think that it has been the best year ever for our common spotted orchids. They have self seeded througout the garden and really comand attention. The fruit frame is now offering us a feast and the sweet peas in the veg garden are at their best.
